Research would create ICT applications, fuel industry growth, says Ubale Maska

Executive Commissioner (Technical Services) Engr. Ubale Shehu Maska has said that Research and Development would drive high-end manufacturing, create more Information and Communications Technology applications to improve lives, and fuel industry growth.
Engr. Maska stated this at the First Roundtable with Academia, Industry and other Stakeholders in the Southwest which took place at University of Lagos recently.

In his words “Consumer demand for the latest wireless devices, and higher bandwidth are driving the growth in telecommunications services, while the shift to cloud-based solutions is enriching the value of the networks. A large percentage of business activities now depend on these mobile devices and network applications for everything from electronic commerce to navigation to consumer service,” Maska reiterated.

He said over the years, the industry has experienced a remarkable growth.

Quoting a recent forecast by Insight Research Corp., Maska said that worldwide Telecommunications Industry revenue will reach $2.4trillion in 2019.

Further he said “Adequate funding is a key and precondition for good quality research on technological and innovative development. To enable the Academia commit to research in this area, the commission has been focused on encouraging academic research through funding of limited research activities. The commission will continue to build and strengthen collaborations between the academia and Telecoms Industry by encouraging innovative research in localizing global innovations,” Maska stated.
